From the start we’ve taken a different approach to 4G. We wanted to ensure that every Three customer with a 4G ready device would be able to seamlessly enjoy the benefits of our network upgrade, at no extra cost. Our number one priority is to maintain and improve our 3G and 4G experience and our 4G roll-out allows us to do this by providing extra capacity, especially in our higher usage areas.
We’ve begun the process of enabling all of our customers with 4G ready devices to receive our 4G service. We’re currently working with a number of them in the first phase of our launch and are paying close attention to their user experience to ensure we get it right before we accelerate the roll-out over the next couple of months.
We plan to have 4G rolled out in 50 cities by the end of 2014 and 98% of the population by the end of 2015 and we’re on track to deliver this. There’ll be no extra charges, no need for new contracts and customers will be upgraded as soon as possible with a simple, free software update. In fact, come February, more than 1.5 million customers who already have 4G enabled devices will be able to access 4G wherever it’s been rolled out.
We’re really excited about the upgrade and what it’ll mean for our customers. It’s a huge technical process that requires equipment upgrades and involves our teams working around the clock to deliver on time. Plus, we’re not only adding 4G capabilities, we’re also upgrading the core network as well, so whether it’s data, texts or calls, the network experience as a whole will be enhanced.
It’s an exciting time and we will continue to share our updates with you moving forward.
